new art media & materials

studio18_spring_photo_DSC04439.wms• watercolours in the “here & away” collection are painted on mylar • a polyester film made by dupont and others • used by archivists because of its inert (acid-neutral) properties • the film is frosted on one side and clear on the other • unlike earlier films & acetate, mylar has better resilience to cracks yellowing & is impervious to water (except when treated with a ‘ground’ layer before painting)

• a recent improvement over traditional (chalky white) grounds is the new transparent gesso used for the collection • paint-pigment holds without loss of the translucent quality of the mylar • with clever framing these paintings will always complement your wall-colour & decor
